May be a little too late for most, but I had a neat way of illustrating or explaining *epiphany* occur to me first thing this morning, early enough for me to use it in both worship services today.

Regarding an epiphany as a *surprising, unexpected revelation*, cut open an apple through its *equator*, to show not simply the flesh of the apple but the pattern of the previously hidden seeds; a star! (In the apples which I cut open the seeds formed a

5-pointed star, appropriate for the season). Just as the star led the magoi to new life, and a new road home, so the *star* of seeds point to new life (and also offers an opportunity to link the Christmas story to Lent/Easter. -- c.f. John 12:24).

If the idea is too late for this year, save it for next year.

Jeff.
