All Saints Day
#1
To explore the significance of the communion of the saints, tell stories
about some
of the saints who have been important in your life, being sure to include
children
who are saints and have been important to you.
#2
THE CHILDREN’S BOOK OF HEROES, edited by William Bennett. has a number
of stories about saints in it. You could read one of these. It’s probably
available your
local public library or at a bookstore. I got it on sale at a mall
bookstore for only $5.99.
#3
If your children do not know this great hymn, "I Sing a Song of the
Saints of God,"
teach it to them. Define "saint" to them. If you use saints, point
out that you are
referring to all Christians, not just those who have been declared
saints by the
Roman Catholic Church. Let them share the names of saints (of others)
who have
meant a lot to them. Challenge them to let God use them to make a difference
in the
lives of others and explore ways they might be and do this.
#4
Show the children a picture of saint, from a stained glass window or
a book.
Then say you have another saint to show them. Hold up a mirror
for
them to look into.
You can fill in the dialogue on All Saints.
